5:30 on the east coast, 2:30 out west. this is "way too early." the show that's always unpredictable, but in the end, it's right. ♪ i hope you have the time of your life ♪ i'm ready to join greenday if they need it. good morning. it's tuesday, august 11th. a state of emergency after a second day of protests marking the anniversary of michael brown's death. more than a dozen arrests were made after protestors blocked the avenue in ferguson. the police department tweeting quote, officers are hit with rocks and bottles. we continue to support free

speech but those ignore speech. protestors shut down the major interstate. it was closed in both directions as dozens of arrests were made there as well. let's bring in nbc's jay gray with the latest from ferguson. good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning. things have calmed down. there's frustration on both sides of the protest line after what was a difficult 24 hours in ferguson. there's a state of emergency in place now. more officers on the ground. officials in st. louis county saying they're not willing to take any chances when it comes to violence here. >> i think what is required in this situation is a proactive response. i think we need to get out ahead of this. last time you know around last year we saw a city burned.

we are not going to see that again. i'm taking every measure possible to avoid that scenario. >> reporter: police say there was no looting, no shots fired overnight, much different from monday night when 18-year-old harris fired on police officers. he's still in critical condition in a local hospital. he has been charged and faces four counts of aggravated assault on law b enforcement, five counts of armed criminal action and one count of shooting at a motor vehicle. >> now back to you. jay from ferguson thanks. here he is in handcuffs on the front rage of this morning's "u.s.a. today." reports of two journalists arrested last year in mcdonald's in the protest were charged by st. louis county prosecutors. they were both charged with

trespassing and interfering with a police officer. at the time, the police claim the two didn't leave the restaurant fast enough after being ordered to do so. now publications are coming to defense of their employees. "the washington post" statement said quote, charging a reporter with trespassing and interfering with a police officer when he was doing his job is outrageous. it appears donald trump has buried the hatchet with fox news for now. trump was under pressure to apologize to megyn kelly for remarks about her. yesterday trump said it was the other way around. >> she asked me an inappropriate question. she should be apologizing to me you want to know the truth. >> trump seemed ready to continue the feud. later yesterday morning, he tweeted this out. fox news producer just called. he's a great guy.

he assures me trump will be treated fairly on fox news. hours later, megyn kelly responded. >> mr. donald trump did interviewsing interviews over the weekend that attacked me personally. i will not apologize for doing good journalism. i'll continue doing my job without fear or favor. mr. trump will continue with a successful campaign thus far. this is a business. it's time to move forward. >> the feud between rand paul and trump seems to be growing. paul issued a statement blasting trump as quote a fake conservative conservative. >> all the you're stupid kind of language doesn't get us anywhere. it also makes you think that the impeerousness that he's going to

say i'm donald trump and therefore so my concern is he'll grab up that power and treat the country as his bully. that could be a real problem, particularly when we're not sure what is his philosophy. he said to "the wall street journal". i give politicians money so they do what the hell i tell them to do. that concerns me. that's what i don't like, politicians are bought and sold. many conservatives are upset with hillary clinton because she appears to sell access. my concern is a businessman like donald trump buying access. isn't that equal? and some say does the emperor have clothe or a brain, frankly? people are going to finally say, what is he saying when he says i must be smart because i'm rich? >> no surprise it didn't take

donald trump long to respond. he tweeted this out. truly weird senator rand paul of kentucky reminds me of a spoiled brat without a properly functions brain. meanwhile, there's signs of financial trouble for rick perry's campaign. "the washington post" scooped there's no longer pay for his staff because the fundraising ran dry. he broke the news to his staff friday telling them they were free to go elsewhere. many have reported stuck with him as unpaid volunteers. the paper reports his super p.a.c. will help by picking up the slack. in 2007 john mccain was forced to slash dozens of workers when

the campaign ran dry. it recovered and we know he took the party's nomination. in what could be a preview of general battle election in 2016, hillary clinton is going after rubio on the issue of rights. she says trump is not the only one that should be singled out. >> when one of the major candidates much younger man senator from florida, says there should be no exceptions for rape and incest that is as offensive and as troubling a comment as you can hear from a major candidate running for the presidency. so yes, i know it makes great tv. i think the guy went way overboard, offensive, outrageous, pick your adjective. what marco rubio said has as much impact in terms of where the republican is as anyone on

that stage. >> marco rubio's campaign responded with this statement. quote, hillary clinton supports the abortion even at the stage when the unborn child can feel pain. she has defended partial birth abortions as a fundamental right. she supports funding planned parenthood even after they've been exposed for role in selling organs of unborn children. she supports using taxpayer money to pay for abortions overseas. hillary clinton holds rad kalt view kale -- radical views we look forward to showing in months to come. man considered the most influential jewish member of congress says the u.s. should restart talks with. >> some say the only answer to this is war. i don't believe so. i believe we should go back and try to get a better deal.

also accused of trying to join isis. the two had a plan to get married in turkey and then cross over to syria. the couple was arrested at a mississippi airport saturday. they're due in federal court later today. let's turn to business ask and big news. two of the nation's big tech companies. steve is live in london. it's about the alphabet and google changes to operating structure there. what's the latest? >> same stuff for now ayman. now google has been replaced by this search engine alphabet. it's a broad restructuring. the holding company will be ran by brin and larry page. it will be called alphabet. google will be run by the new ceo of that. it's going to make the better disclosure, cleaner, more accountable, according to the group. so many interests including

health care, driverless cars and googlex experimental labs and elsewhere. a consumer watchdog has said to the department of justice they shouldn't allow the merger of expedia and/or orbitz. consumer watchdog said this will enable it to impose higher fees on hotels. >> let me ask you about the china currency. the yen saw a drop. . >> it's down 6.2298. this is significant. a lot of people are worried about cur rendonrency wars.
